Session 1 — God's Blueprint for Marital Joy
God’s first blueprint for connection and joy.
Theme Verse
“Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love.” — Ecclesiastes 9:9 (NIV)
Study Focus
Marriage was God’s first human partnership. Before He established governments or churches, He created a relationship. This reveals His priority: connection precedes calling.
Adam’s joy wasn’t complete until Eve stood beside him. When Scripture says, “It is not good for man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18), it’s more than companionship — it’s purpose fulfilled through relationship.
Your wife isn’t an accessory to your mission. She is part of your design.
Key Scriptures
- Genesis 2:18–25 — The creation of woman & the principle of oneness.
- Ecclesiastes 9:9 — The biblical call to enjoy your wife.
- Proverbs 18:22 — “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor.”
- 1 Peter 3:7 — “Treat her with respect… as heirs together of the gracious gift of life.”
Word Study — ra’ah (“to delight, to behold with pleasure”)
In Ecclesiastes 9:9, the Hebrew ra’ah means:
- to delight in
- to look upon with joy
- to see as beautiful
- to behold with pleasure
This isn’t passive. God commands husbands to actively delight in their wives — the same expression God used when He “saw” His creation and called it good.
Enjoyment is spiritual. Delight is obedience.
Reflection Questions
- When was the last time I slowed down to genuinely enjoy my wife’s presence?
- Do my daily actions communicate delight — or duty?
- What makes my wife feel seen, valued, and cherished?
- How can I invite more joy and gratitude into our home this week?
Application — “Joy in Motion”
This week, practice one act of intentional enjoyment every day.
- Compliment her on something non-physical (wisdom, creativity, resilience).
- Sit close — no screens, no distractions — simply talk.
- Revisit a place tied to a shared memory.
Write one sentence each day:
“Today I enjoyed my wife by…”
Couples Reflection Corner — Something to Share
“Marriage isn’t about surviving together — it’s discovering joy together.”
Talk About It
- What moment this week made you smile about “us”?
Couples Prayer
Lord, thank You for the gift of our marriage. Help us notice and celebrate the joy You’ve placed between us. Teach us to enjoy each other as You enjoy us. Amen.
A Husband’s Prayer for His Wife
Father, help me delight in my wife the way You delight in me. Let my eyes see her beauty with fresh gratitude. Strengthen my heart to cherish her presence, honor her spirit, and enjoy her as Your good gift. Fill our home with joy, laughter, and connection. Amen.
EKG Leadership Insight
Just as teams thrive where appreciation is visible, marriages thrive where enjoyment is expressed.
Leaders who enjoy their teams inspire loyalty. Husbands who enjoy their wives inspire trust.
Whether at home or work, delight creates performance.
